Community sport and physical activity day for all ages and abilities comes to St George’s Square
Luton Council will be hosting a community sport and physical activity day in St George’s Square on Saturday 7 September from 11am to 3pm. This event is to encourage residents to be more active, find out what is being done to help residents to be more active locally and to further understand the barriers to physical activity within the town.
The event will feature stalls from various local and community organisations, such as Total Wellbeing Luton, Active Luton, Luton Town Community Trust, GoodGym, ABCD Luton, Edible High Town and Penrose Roots. Luton Council’s public health team will also be in attendance, asking for views on their sport and physical activity strategic delivery plan
There will also be a range of informal activities for residents of all ages and abilities to take part in, such as hula hooping, skipping, NHS health checks and dance. From 11.30am to 12.30pm there will be a dance taster session for children and young people where participants can drop-in and take part for as long as they’d like!
Cllr Khtija Malik, portfolio holder for public health at Luton Council, said: “This event is a fantastic opportunity for residents to try something new and to find out about what activities are available to them. Too many people across the country live sedentary lifestyles, and our aim is to show these people that physical activity doesn’t have to be boring or a punishment, but that moving your body is the greatest form of self-care. We’ll be showcasing a range of fun activities for all the family to try out and see what they like!
“We’ll also be asking for views on our sport and physical activity strategic delivery plan. It’s important that residents engage with us on this so that we can ensure that by 2040, Luton is a healthy town, where everybody can thrive.”
The community sport and physical activity day is a free event and open to all. You can find out more about the event and our strategies by visiting luton.gov.uk/sport.
