If you’ve ever taken the eight hour flight from London to New York and wondered how we haven’t found a way to go faster yet, then wonder no more, because the first supersonic passenger plane since Concord might be just round the corner.

Jet maker Boom Supersonic has announced that American airline, United Airlines plans to buy 15 of their Overture passenger jets as long as they pass safety tests.https://350e7cc57c4aab8e37b7d65812e524ce.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html?n=0

Whilst still in production for now, once completed the jets will be able to reach top speeds of Mach 1.7 and cruise at an altitude of 60,000 feet.

The net-zero carbon aircraft will also fly on 100 percent sustainable aviation fuel making it not only incredibly fast and efficient but also a surprisingly environmentally friendly way to cross the pond.

Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines, said: “Boom’s vision for the future of commercial aviation, combined with the industry’s most robust route network in the world, will give business and leisure travellers access to a stellar flight experience.

“Our mission has always been about connecting people and now, working with Boom, we’ll be able to do that on an even greater scale.”
